What is Applied Behavior Analysis?
Applied behavior analysis is a scientifically validated technique used to better understand behavior and how it is affected by a person’s environment. Methods of behavior analysis have helped children and adults who have developmental delays develop various skills needed to live a successful life. It has been used since the 1960’s to help bring about positive behavior changes in individuals who have autism, down syndrome, or other types of delays.
ABA is great for individuals with developmental delays because:
- It helps developmentally delayed individuals live productive lives
- It has been endorsed by many separate state and federal agencies
- It can foster basic communicative skills such as listening, looking, and imitating
